Nice reminder to say yes to social opportunities and to take the initiative to create new opportunities to be with people even when it's easier not to do either.

After YEARS of thinking I was ok and satisfied with having my hubby, family, extended family and my overseas best friend, I decided to try making new friends last year.

Boy oh boy! It’s been FUN!

I have a new walking buddy and we’ve gone shopping together.

I have a new foodie buddy.

I have a new all day hang out buddy.

I have reconnected with old friends that I have been out of contact with for decades.

Now whenever I connect with someone that I click with, I just say, “we should have lunch sometime” and they just light up! It’s something I’ve never done before, but it’s getting easier and easier each time!

I’m not an extrovert, but I love have deep connections…I just didn’t think I would start having new ones in my 40s!

I truly wish I was more social and extraverted, but as I get older, I just find it all headache inducing and wearying. I've become a fan of one-to-one catch-ups over a coffee or lunch. Large groups are just too much for my slightly introverted self. I was much better at showing up and making an effort when I was younger, but around 55 I stopped trying so hard and now I quietly decline, unless it's something I really want to attend - then I love it and am glad I made the effort.
